The Byrds and Eight Miles High- when folk rock became acid rock. It's the trippy guitars that get all the attention but the bass playing is way out there and the vocal harmonies are superb. I have loved this since I first heard it sometime in the mid 1980s. It was only twenty years old then but felt ancient.

Always sounds good. Like you I didn't hear it until the '80s - when it finally dawned on me that there had been some great music in the '60s. But I'd heard Husker Du's version first!
Husker Du's version is unbelievably good, in a class of its own.
I recall a (probably untrue) story about a press conference with The Byrds around the time of the release of the single "Eight Miles High". The band and their press officer Derek Taylor (the Beatles' former press officer) were all strenuously denying that the song was drug-related.
The official line was that the song was about an aeroplane flight into London, until Crosby added: "It's great to listen to when you're stoned."
With C and Adam...I'd probably heard my mother play the original but, it was Husker Du that made it matter to me.
