Fade Away Again

After The Slits broke up Ari Up sang maybe her best vocal take on this 1981 New Age Steppers cover of the Junior Byles song Fade Away (posted recently both here and at Jim McLean's Rabbit). New Age Steppers were Ari, dub maestro Adrian Sherwood, his Creation Rebels and a rotating cast/collective of like minded musicians.  They were also the first release on Sherwood's On-U Sound label- some of their dub is deliberately harsh and abrasive, confrontational. Fade Away is a dubbed out delight from start to finish.

  1. An incredibly good track I first discovered on a ON-U Sound label sampler many years ago. It sure bears repeated posting, not only by you and George: Walter@afewgoodtimes.. posted it twice. And yes, I know this has been the most annoying comment ever: blame it on the fact that the school year has ended last Saturday and now I have too much time on my hands, at least until the State exams start. I'll see myself out..

  3. Oh so long since I've heard this but it takes me right back to sitting on my bed playing it on the first stereo system I ever owned - I bought that first NAS album when it came out - a good year for music, that one! (I've always 'recycled' my records so no longer have it, nor Return of the Giant Slits which also got played a lot that year...)

  4. Never heard this before, but of course it will not be downloaded in these parts, oh no.

  5. C-Return of the Giant Slits is out of print as far as I can tell, and fairly expensive second hand.

  6. A fantastic song Adam. I love it and I posted it a few times like Luca said. Always a pleasure to hear Ari Up singing. Continue this way and make me smile.
