It looks like it's going to happen. I'd rather it didn't. Some things are better left as they where. But if they play somewhere round here next summer I'd have to go (assuming demand for tickets allowed it). Even though I'd rather they let it lie. Somehow, reforming for big money shows twenty years on doesn't seem like what they stood for in 1989.
She Bangs The Drums is perfect, a musical and lyrical manifesto I never get bored of. 'The past was yours, the future's mine'.
depressing news...
ReplyDeletethey were always terrible live... and that version of fools gold doesn't change my mind... sorry...
but if they just play a few 'events' like they did with spike island, ally pally and empress ballrooms then they'll retain their mystique... thats what they were good at... making a gig into a happening...
the last thing they should do is a tour of arenas...
anyway, those are my thoughts...
I saw them several times and never thought they were poor. Amazing in Liverpool & Manchester in 89, and pulled it out on the comeback tour too. Spike Island- I think it depended where exactly you were standing. The sound was good where we were, but I know others said it was shit where they were.
ReplyDeleteI'll be surprised if it does happen, given the rancour of their press exchanges. I was going to say I'd probably try to see them (if they don't play stadiums, which they probably will) but I don't think I could stand the sheer fuss of it all.
ReplyDeleteA few mates and I were discussing this last night when we were out and came to the conclusion that we would go if we we guaranteed the same quality of Es as we were necking back in 88/89. So the chances of us attending will be very slight, me, no chance, as jimdoes says above I always thought they were shit live.
ReplyDeleteStill gives Hooky the chance to do a right back at ya to Mani, re living off past glories.
I quite often see Ian Brown in Sainsburys in Alty stocking up on red onions and 3 for 2 deals on cream crackers.
ReplyDeleteFascinating stuff.
