Right then, enough of the balearic stuff. This is a slinky, groovy little number and no mistake- from Anima Animus, The Creatures 1999 lp. And it gives me an excuse to post this rather excellent gif of Siouxsie doing her thing. The Creatures were a side vehicle for Siouxsie and drummer Budgie, with the emphasis on, obviously enough, voice and drums and percussion. The Creatures released four albums between 1981 and 2005 and they all have something going for them. The band ended when Siouxsie and Budgie's marriage ended.

Great choice for a dark Sunday morning - Siouxsie is such a one-off, isn't she? I remember how the Wild Things EP seemed pretty ground-breaking at the time, and what with the sleeve art too..!
ReplyDeleteWell Balearic and The Creatures do have Spain in common, so there is still a thin line to walk to get from one to the other.... Miss The Girl and Right Now were such brilliant singles - dark, creepy and oddly joyous! As Rave was taking over, they released Standing There and Fury Eyes - songs you couldn't ignore. With Anima Animus, they reminded us how inventive the darker side of pop could be. I miss The Creatures about as much as The Banshees.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes think I prefer the Creatures to the Banshees Echorich. They're a bit more fun.
ReplyDeleteAnd I nearly used the Wild Things sleeve photo for this post C.
ReplyDeleteI'm mesmerized by this gif...I was only able to break away when I realized it was 4:30 and I hadn't had a drink all day.
