Brian at Linear Tracking Lives is counting down his top hundred songs of the 1990s and included a song by Bob Mould's post-Husker Du power trio Sugar, off their final lp FUEL (File Under Easy Listening). Round these parts Copper Blue is the Sugar album to go to, brilliant from start to finish, but Brian did send me back to FUEL and this song which I always loved. Your Favourite Thing has one of those masterly, fluid Bob Mould guitar riffs that he can knock out in his sleep but other guitarists can only dream of.
Your Favourite Thing
Brian's post kick-started a Sugar revival round these parts too, though if push came to shove and I could only choose one LP from Bob Mould's post-Hüsker Dü output, it would have to be 'Workbook'.
ReplyDeleteCopper Blue is the only album here, but I like what you and Brian have posted.
ReplyDeleteHey SA. If there was ever any doubt, and I don't think there was, Copper Blue is the overwhelming go from Mould's Sugar years, but I'm pleased to hear some have taken the time to listen to File Under Easy Listening again. It's very good in its own right. Great pick today. Thanks very much for the mention.
ReplyDeleteI think the World and his dog agrees that Copper Blue is one of THE great rock albums of all time. FUEL has always been overlooked as a result, and in fairness, it doesn't have nearly the same impact as CB. But as you all state, it's got some really good stuff on it. Brian posted Gee Angel which is the pick of the bunch for me, but there are at least four or five other more-than-worthy tracks on there too.
ReplyDeleteHaven't listened to FUEL for years.Time to remedy that.I have The Beaster EP but that's a tough listen
ReplyDeleteCC- Beaster isn't much fun is it? Good but intense.
ReplyDeleteSwede- I find Workbook hard work. Its good but hard work. There are other Bob solo albums I'd listen to before it but that doesn't mean they're better.
Just listened to FUEL loudly (Mrs CC is out) and it was very enjoyable
