While looking for something else on the net I found this picture of fans of The Cure from 1985. It was an easily obtainable look for those willing to go the distance with the crimpers.
This 1985 single by The Cure couldn't sound more like New Order if Hooky played the bass and Stephen Morris was on the drums. No mistaking the voice though, it couldn't be anyone other than Robert Smith. A song about regretting the mistakes of a love triangle and losing the girl he wanted with the finest pop melodies and the jauntiest rhythm.
In Between Days
A song I've posted before, back in 2012 it seems, making reference to the New Order comparisons. Round and round....
Was never a huge Cure fan, the goth thing, but I did really like this and a few other singles.
ReplyDeleteSame.
ReplyDeleteFantastic photo. And you could achieve the same hair effect on the cheap by making dozens of tiny thin plaits in it while wet, tie the ends with wool, then dry, undo the plaits and - voila! (Not that I was a massive Cure fan but much like you and Drew on that front.)
ReplyDeleteCure fan or not, you have to admit this is one of the band's best moments. I only stuck with them a little longer after The Head on the Door.
ReplyDeleteI'm reading Peter Hook's book Substance. He doesn't mention this song in the 1985 sections (too busy slagging of fellow bandmates, manager, and saying how much sex and drink he had - it's a bit tedious)
ReplyDeleteNot read Hooky's book yet. It's on the list. I find New order sagging each other off a bit dispiriting
ReplyDeleteSwiss Adam
'slagging'
ReplyDeleteI find Hooky almost as tedious a bore nowadays as Moz....not words I necessarily thought I'd end up typing when I started blogging!
ReplyDeleteMy mucker Jacques the Kipper could easily have been in that photo; incredible to think he's nowa pillar of society and member of the Edinburgh establishment.
Oh and today's tune is a classic.
