Listen To This
Dexys in 1985, when Kevin Rowland realised that nothing is further out than looking totally straight. They then released an album (Don't Stand Me Down) that the press didn't get but now can't get enough of. I Love You (Listen To This) could easily be my favourite Dexys tune (One Of Those Things off the same record runs it close, with Kevin's impassioned realisation that 'It all sounded the same'). Here are the group on performing live on The Tube in '85. Kevin's dancing at the three minute mark is a joy to behold.

Adam, I have been working on a Dexys ICA for ages. I promise this album will be well represented.
Looking forward to that Brian.
The difficult third album...even that Kevin had to make his own...while other bands have trouble with their sophomore release, Dexy's saved the head scratcing for #3. But I am in agreement, Don't Stand Me Down is really great.
It is a great album just a pity it took so long for many people to realise. I'm not sure the same will happen with the latest album.
The latest one doesn't do much for me either Drew

Don't get me started on Dexys. The 3rd album is one of my fave albums of all time...so is the first one actually. Those fave albums that are at the top of everything, absolute must haves for me. Kevin is up there for me with Weller and Strummer. I spent more years as a musician trying to be him than almost anybody else.

In an era when looks and image seemed to be everything, Kevin Rowland always seemed to do the opposite of what was expected and anticipated and in a sense used this to challenge expectations.
It's an LP that confounded everyone at the time, fans and critics alike. Dexy's were regarded, thanks to the success of Too-Rye-Ay as a great singles band and so this challenging listen with tracks of prog-rock length was mind-blowing and just too much for many. I'll hold my hand up and say I was one of those.
Bu hey, we all make mistakes don't we?
