All Things Being Equal

Long before he was rocking down Electric Avenue Eddy Grant was in a sixties beat group who released several fine records, none more so than this one- Baby Come Back- from 1966. Bouncy bassline, beat group backing, a smidgen of pop-reggae, great vox. It even survived a mauling by UB40 and Buju Banton in the early 90s.

I'd always assumed Electric Avenue was a made up pop music place name, until I saw the street sign while looking out of the window of the top deck of a 159 bus. Cheered me right up.
