Quick Canal
Standing in a bar on Sauchiehall Street on Saturday night I got distracted by this song. I didn't know what it was but its hazy, motorik groove got its hooks into me. The vocals sounded like Laetitia Sadier of Stereolab (but if it was Stereolab it was a song I didn't know and neither did Drew). Curiosity got the better of me so I went and asked the dj and it turns out it was Laetitia, singing on an Atlas Sound song. I'd not heard Atlas Sound before- an offshoot for Bradford Cox from Deerhunter (who I don't think I've heard anything by either but I know the name).
Just give this a spin for the next nine minutes. It will improve your day a little.

Very good. I'm impressed that you managed to remember it come Sunday morning.
Texted myself the band name. There's no way I would have remembered otherwise.
Swiss Adam
Deerhunter are inconsistent to these ears, for every great track, there are two or three I could forget before they're finished playing. But Atlas Sound are just a lot more interesting to listen to.
As I said on Saturday night, I thought I had something by Atlas Sound and it is another track from the album this is from but with Panda Bear on vocal duties and I also have an Atlas Sound remix of a Stereolab tune to complete the circle which I think will be posted this week.
As I said on my text i translated the tune I asked the DJ about into German or possible Klingon as I have no idea what the note is supposed to say!
Lovely. It has already improved my day. I would have been the same, hearing it in a bar and being drawn to it.
A friend of mine went to see Laetitia Sadier the other week and was very charmed by her performance; I'm meeting him tomorrow so look forward to hearing more about her and being able to mention this track too.
As for Glasgow... I am enjoying reading everyone's posts today (and hopefully over coming days) to piece together quite a picture of the events!
Great photo too.
I took the photos in a bar late on Saturday night. Lucky they were anywhere near good tbh
The Atlas Sound track is a beaut. Bradford Cox also links to Stereolab through Cavern of Anti-Matter, the group includes Tim Gane and Joe Dilworth of Stereolab, along with Sonic Boom and Jan St Werner. The albums are v good.
