Your Eyes Are Deeper Than Time

There's something about weather like this which makes The Small Faces the perfect soundtrack. Plus, while away camping I read a longish article about them in a heritage rock magazine. It was a toss up between this song and Song Of A Baker (and there aren't too many songs about bakers), but I've gone for Tin Soldier, a brilliant soulful rocker with backing vocals from the lovely PP Arnold. This song should be in your download folder and then played loud through open windows.

I gave a homeless bloke some money and a cigarette yesterday. He started talking at me about how he'd got out of Brixton nick and had been the drummer in the Small Faces. Doesn't half look like the bloke second left in the picture. Was he the drummer?

Drummer was Kenny Jones who also drummed with the latter day Who. I'd be surprised if he was homeless but you never know...

Also second left is Steve Mariott, guitar and vox. And died in 1991.

perhaps not then.

Outing yourself as an Uncut reader? You'll have The Khmer Word on you; don't be fooled by that apparent Guardian reader cuddliness, they're merciless when crossed.

PS: According to the never wrong Wiki Kenny Jones lives in Ewhurst, Surrey with his model wife and four children. Possibly acidted met Mad Ron, the first drummer.

I haven't bought Uncut for ages, but The Small Faces and hours in a sundrenched field dragged me back. Free cd is good too (for once)
