I was reminded of this at the weekend, a lengthy techno workout from 1994, Leftfield remixing Renegade Soundwave. Moody, thumpy, acidic and very, very good indeed. Sounds like part of a soundtrack to a journey by train at dusk.

If there are any "classics' from this period (and whether there even should be could be its own debate) I feel this is one of them. RSW weren't all House Hippy and Chemicals... they were rougher, tougher...angrier. Leftfield upped the tension and urgency... The single was laid back in comparison. The added rhythm secion of the remix lets you fly a bit but you are still anchored to the dance floor so as high as you get, your feet will find their way back on the ground.
