Love Comes In Waves

Something else new today, the latest in a seemingly endless flow of new music. Lovely, rippling, hazy psychedelic guitar music, ideal for the dog days of summer, arriving in the form of a solo album from Andy Bell (Ride and Glok Andy Bell not the Erasure Andy Bell). Love Comes In Waves is the sort of song that used to be delivered on a weekly basis in the late 80s and early 90s. Dreamy, driving, shimmering, indie- rock, all fringes, guitar pedals, love beads and suede jackets.

In contrast I wrote a post about Kylie (Minogue not Kardashian but I hope that goes without saying) for The Vinyl Villain, an addition to his long running ICA series. Ten songs plus four bonus tracks. It was posted yesterday. You can read it here.

Wow the Andy Bell track is superb. Right back to his roots too you suspect. And what roots...mid-eighties Creation, all desert boots, clothes from Flip and mod hair. A fabulous era on which I look back fondly myself.
Kylie? Well who wasn't interested in the Impossible Princess time, but the New Order mash up takes it for me...

I caught the Andy Bell tune on 6Music at some ungodly hour of the morning a couple of days ago while getting ready for work. It's bloody great isn't it? Motorik psyche!

This feels like the closest thing Andy has released, as a solo project, to a Ride song. It's heavy on the Mod/Psychedelia but steeped in the now-ness of Ride. Just lovely.

And SA, thank you so very much for the ICA on Kylie, who has grown from a Pop Princess to a Pop Queen over the past 35+ years. We all have dirty little secrets when it comes to artist we might be fans of, but when I comes to Kylie, I can cry my appreciation from the highest mountain or at least The Shard...

A double thanks for this post. I've never tracked Andy Bell and would most likely have missed this altogether, which would have been my loss as it's a great song and feels particularly needed at this time.

...as does the Kylie ICA. I've posted a comment on The Vinyl Villain site, but just to add my thanks here for a great selection. And yes, I watched the Michael Hutchence doc recently too. I'm not especially a fan of INXS but I found it moving and the brief focus on his relationship with Kylie very touching.

Going to be tracking down this Andy Bell. Really hits the spot. Thanks, Adam.

I largely approve of your Kylie compilation, but I assume you didn't include the monolith of beauty that is Where Is The Feeling (Brothers In Rhythm Soundtrack mix) because, like so many, you've not heard it. Honestly you should remedy that ASAP. Thought it was just me who loved it for years, then discovered it had a sizeable cult following, then by chance heard Kylie herself talking about how much she loved it on the radio this year. It's not on streaming, I could send you the mp3 but I'm not in the UK at the moment. Confident no-one will regret checking it out. It's a journey.

Should have left this on the Vinyl Villain comments, shouldn't I. I'll leave it on both.

Yep, you're right Tom, I haven't heard that remix. Would love an mp3 if you can sort at any point.
