Smoking Holiday

Five years ago last night, 9 pm on June 3rd 2013 to be exact, was the last time I smoked a cigarette. At that time being smoke free for five years seemed impossible. I do feel a sense of achievement about giving up. I don't even miss it all the time now- I do miss it sometimes but not every waking moment like I did at first. When I get a waft of smoke in the street from a passerby I quite like it but there have been occasions when I get a noseful of second hand smoke where I can't believe I actually used to do it. I sometimes think that I'll start again when it's too late to matter much, maybe when I'm 75, but I suspect in 27 years time it'll be illegal to smoke in any public or private space and if not it'll be prohibitively expensive.

This ep from Bird Of Paradise called Smoking Holiday came out on Sweden's Hoga Nord label earlier this year. All four tracks here are top quality, spaced out, slow motion, electronic chug.

I gave up smoking on a semi-regular basis until finally quitting for good in 2005. Like you, I used to think that I'd start again when it became too late in life to matter one way or the other, but I'm not even sure I'd do that anymore.
Good chugging tune, by the way.

Thirteen years six months & three days, oh and four stone! I still miss it but can't get my head round how I ever afforded it or justified the cost.

I've had a lapse I'm afraid. Going to buy some nicotine lozenges this week to get me back on the straight and narrow

It's about 30 years for me now and absolutely no regrets, I started to hate the smoky fug you used to get at gigs and pubs, on trains and even in office where I worked (hard to believe now), let alone the smell on my clothes. But just the other day I was walking behind someone who was smoking, a strong wind blew it back in my direction so I got a surprise lungful and there was a big part of me which, completely unexpectedly, got a bit of a cigarette high and really enjoyed it! Maybe it just brought back some nice, associated (youthful) memories.
